June 13th 2009

Jennifer and Steve stuck to their plans of having the wedding ceremony outside at David Walley’s Hot Springs & Spa on the lawn area that looks out to Jobs Peak and the Carson Valley.  June 13th of this year the weather decided not to cooperate, the wind just kept howling down the Sierra Mountains.  All of us vendors proceeded with plan “A” as if the winds would calm down at least for the ceremony time.  The wind was so strong it blew over the table set for the sand ceremony. Thank goodness the sand was not set on the table at that time.  Ben Moore (Minister) and Bill McClain (DJ) had discussed how they would hide the microphone so it would not be beaten by the gust of wind. The beautiful flowers set up by Art in Bloom were getting a true test of endurance.  Finally ten minutes before the ceremony I had asked the beautiful bride Jennifer if she wanted to proceed with plan “A” because she would not be able to do the sand ceremony  and her 10’ veil would be blown away or pulling on her head.  Plus the guest would get full force of the wind in their faces and it really wouldn’t matter if the microphones were working because the wind is blowing in the ear.  The final call happened…move the wedding ceremony inside! All of us vendors moved swiftly to make the six o’clock ceremony happen.  I must say we did awesome; Jennifer and Steve were exchanging vows by ten after six. Lori (Lorraine Photography) did a few outside photographs after the ceremony so at least the outside settings could be captured.  The rest of the evening went as planned and the couple had a blast at the reception. Conclusion of the evening the guest lined the side walk holding cones full of rose petals as Jennifer & Steve approached the limousine the guest threw the pedals to bless them before being whisked away. Jennifer threw her bouquet to the single women that lined outside the limousine, who will be next??  I hope Jennifer & Steve enjoy their honeymoon at St. Lucia. Look forward to my post card.

2009 Northern California Regional Conference

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

Mini- reunion of Philippine travel pals.Tuesday, June 2nd – I had made a 2 hour drive to Rancho Cordova for a conference to get motivated in my business ideas. The first speaker was Andy Ebon www.weddingmarketing.net the king of EBS virtual communication. I am glad that I had the chance to see him again just in-case I missed a few things on the first round when I saw him up at Lake Tahoe Hyatt Regency www.laketahoe.hyatt.com. The BLOG world is defiantly a learning process and I am sure each time I will learn something new to enhance my web site search engines. Plus this is a great way to feature each event or wedding that was planned by Felicia Events at Lake Tahoe. Next on my agenda was the young gentlemen Matt Brys and Larry Burrow with Extreme Productions Entertainment  www.extremeprodjs.com showing how to sell without selling. It was entertaining how they played off each other to keep you interested (I did stay interested)  as they “Painted the Picture” of how to keep your potential client interested and get excited about they’re wedding or event. The next speaker was Tara  with Green Tie Affair. http://www.agreentieaffair.ca/bio.htm Green, the New White – How to Plan an Ecologically-friendly and Socially-Responsible Wedding – presented by Tara Murney, Wedding Planning Institute of Canada She spoke on how to be more environmentally aware for weddings or events. Some of the tips that she mentioned are already in practice in my regular routine of life. Now I need to implement more things that she had mentioned. It is not just weddings that we need to think of being “Green” it is our life style that impact’s everyday. I know I want the future to be bright for my children and my future grandchildren (Not soon). It makes you stop and think about yourself on how we can improve for the future. Lunch break came and I had a chance to see travel pals that got to experience the Philippines as I did. It was a trip that will not be forgotten and a great opportunity to meet wonderful people. Then it was time to get back into the routine of listening to speakers. Well, I can say I picked the right one right after lunch because you were energized by his presentation. Yep, Peter Merry “The Starbuck Effect” – Not being the same as others, being creative. And I know that one…every wedding planner/coordinator has the same wording and it drives me CRAZY! I myself try to think of creative things and try not to fall into that hole of OH HUM the same stuff. Capture attention!! Do I have your attention?  As I walked out of the room feeling geees “I don’t want to be the same as everyone else. I have to make sure I don’t fall into that gap.”

Then last but not least was Monica Hart the coach on how to network at mixers. Well, I know I am not shy and I will jump in with both feet but on how to get my name out there she had some great pointers. I can’t say what she told us… you will have to wait and see. So, in all it was a great day and I enjoyed meeting new people. Thank you again to Richard & Julia Markel with AFWPi for making this all possible. www.afwpi.com You Rock!!

The day that Amy called I was very excited to know that I would be doing a dinner reception locally in Gardnerville and only 3 minutes away from my home. Plus helping Amy create a tropical style with a sophistication that would be a WOW factor in the Sierra’s in Northern Nevada.

Amy got married in Hawaii three weeks prior of having her celebration in Gardnerville with family and friends.  Amy and her husband Carlo greeted the guest upon entry to the back yard of the tropical serenity with beautiful lei’s. Each guest had written a special note to the newlyweds that were displayed on a wish tree made of drift wood and decorated in crystals and gorgeous flowers.  The photographer captured pictures of the guest and dinner reception details. www.belindagrantphotography.com

As the guest embarked into the tropical bliss themed yard they were greeted with passed hors d’oeurves of seared Ahi with wasabi and coconut prawns with pineapple by High Point Catering. www.highpointecatering.com     The guest had a chance to cruise the back yard haven and see the detailed table display that was the dining area.  The tent was white with windows walls on one side to block the gracious breezes of the Sierra’s. The tenting company was Camelot Party Rentals out of Reno. www.camelotpartyrentals.biz   The graceful light blue swags with lighting added just that special touch of glisten that complemented the crystal curtain that hung above the 30’ long table that was done by the crew of Red Carpet Event in Reno, NV. Karen email – Karen@redcarpetdmc.com   The dining table had been draped with ivory lamour linen and complemented with a blue pin tuck overlay.  Cascading down the table was drift wood that had nestled areas of vases of either beach sand with candles, orchids, sea shells, blossoming orange orchids and white lilies.   The place settings had grass mats that Amy found for a great bargain that replaced the chargers that was topped with ivory crush napkins and decorated by the favor hand craved turtle from Hawaii and an orange orchid.  The linen was rented by Creative Coverings in Reno and also specializes in custom ordering.  www.creativecoverings.com  The flowers are by Art in Bloom whom won the table top designing contest with me in 2008. www.bridalartinbloom.com  The best for me was the mini pineapple skewers that were in the water glasses at the dining table.  The dishes were rented from Classic Party Rentals out of Sacramento. www.classicpartyrentals.com

Before the guest had a chance to sit down for dinner they were invited to the buffet that showed off the luau pig accompanied with Macadamia rib eye steaks, teriyaki vegetable skewers, sweet potato puree and green beans.  I saw a few of the guest go back for seconds! Dessert time was fruit skewers and chocolate fountain. (Note: do not put chocolate fountain in breezy area or it will fly!)  The cake was a beautiful light blue fondant decorated with a coral effect www.deesignercakes.com  that was served to the guest by High Point Catering.

The guest with cocktails in hand and a full stomach had the opportunity to dance to music filled air by DJ-Tony Dove from Lake Tahoe. Email: tropicaldrifter@hotmail.com He kept the rhythm moving till the evening came to a closing. I wish Amy & Carlo many years of happiness.

“Thirsty Third Thursday” will grow

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

321px-red_wine_glas.jpgLast night started off a little slow for the wine walk for down town Gardnerville. The time scheduled was 4 to 7 p.m.. The first hour went by really slow. Then just around 5:30 things started to get going on the streets of Gardnerville. The main comments were that they loved the idea but wished it could start a little later. Please let the town of Gardnerville know your feed back on the “Thirsty Third Thursday” http://www.mainstreetgardnerville.org  Good criticism is welcomed. Be gentle.

As for Felicia Events first local social function in the Big City of Gardnerville I think it went well. It was wonderful to see my friends come and join the community wine walk on Thursday. I myself had some people say “Wow, I didn’t even know you were here!”  Well, that is why I am doing this…I can do local weddings, and any type of party.  Here is my business card and please visit my web site… I will be starting my BLOG. http://www.FeliciaEvents.com

So, I guess this is what I need to do next month in June. Meet new local people that might be looking for a event planner or a tuxedo rental. Plus it was fun sitting out in the front of the boutique with a glass of wine with my husband waving at cars when they honked the horn.

Learning how to blog! Ah over load in my head!

Beautiful setting at Lake Tahoe-Incline Hyatt Regency http://www.laketahoe.hyatt.com  was perfect place for me to start learning more about BLOG. The guest speaker was Andy Ebon @ http://www.theweddingmarketingblog.com who is a very theatical speaker that keeps your interest sparked and keeps the engines going. The three things he said that are the main factors of BLOG is Write, Edit and Publish. I wish I had a team to help edit but it will be me, myself and I that will have to do all three of the duties. The seminar was two quick hours. I’m sure it could work into a work shop of how to set-up and get things going if we all had our own lap tops there at the seminar.

So, all of my my fellow BLOG people be patient with me and let me be my own lab rat of learning and if you have pointers then please by all means give me the lesson. Thank you for being part of Felicia Events and her learning experience in the BLOG world.

Spring Tea & Fashion Show

Thanks to Carol Benis I was invited to decorate a table for the ladies of Women Society/ St. Galls in Gardnerville, NV. The event took place on April 18, 2009.  I wasn’t able to participate because it was during prom season. The women had over 30 tables decorated.Upon my return to clean-up my table I was completely surprised that I had taken first place.  All the ladies loved it! It was a great feeling to be part of something local here in Gardnerville. This is what I love to do! Hattie Reed with Art in Bloom did a wonderful job AGAIN!!! She shares my vision on what we want to express for each design.

Two Days till Douglas High Prom

prom-2009-024.JPGApril 28, 2009

This is my first blog entry. This week is a busy week for me and I am glad to see it is once a year! Douglas High School Prom is May 1, 2009. I have been doing tuxedo rentals for over ten years and it is funny to see how fashion fades come and go! There is always the one young man that wants to be different and stand out in the crowd. Well, I can honestly say this year everyone one of them look all handsome and were all very welled mannered. Except one!  Congratulation to the class of 2009.
